John Hall's newest Alaska tour takes visitors off the beaten path.

The "Untamed Alaska" tour in John Hall's Alaska lineup offers visitors the opportunity to explore Alaska by train, motorcoach and boat, while bringing them deep into Denali National Park and Preserve.

Guests will spend two days at Denali Backcountry Lodge, an upscale lodge located in the heart of the park and just a few miles from the base of Denali. The lodge offers outdoor activities such as gold panning, mountain biking, berry picking and fishing in Wonder Lake.

It is then off to Valdez and Cordova, two of Alaska's most charming coastal communities.

"Both of these small, seaside towns give our guests a snapshot of the Alaska way of life, alongside the amazing beauty of the glacier and whale watching cruises on Prince William Sound, not to mention optional bear viewing," said John S. Hall, John Hall's Alaska's president and founder.

Near Valdez, guests will stay two nights at Tsaina Lodge, perched on top of Thompson Pass. While at the lodge, guests can take in the impressive views of Worthington Glacier, go on a morning hike or relax at the waterfalls at Keystone Canyon.

For two full days, guests on the Untamed Alaska tour explore Prince William Sound aboard Stan Stephens Cruises. Chances are very good guests will see a multitude of wildlife, including humpback and orca whales, sea otters, harbor seals, sea lions and bald eagles, while also viewing the spectacular Meares and Columbia glaciers.

The tour begins and ends in Anchorage. It can be extended to include a small-ship sailing in partnership with Alaskan Dream Cruises.

Untamed Alaska is especially attractive to guests who like to branch out on their own. The tour "offers guests two days throughout the trip when they can choose their own activities, break away from the group and spend time exploring the Last Frontier in their own way," Hall said.

John Hall's Alaska's popular Denali Explorer tour also has built-in flexibility. The 14-day tour begins in Anchorage and ends in Vancouver. Guests visit Denali National Park for two days and then it's on to the quirky and fun town of Talkeetna for a couple of days. The next stop is Seward where the sea part of the tour begins. The tour can be shortened to eight days for those guests wanting only the land portion.
