Travel Leaders Group is acquiring Barrhead Travel Group in
Scotland, which it says is one of the largest retail travel companies in the
U.K.
The acquisition is expected to close in the first quarter. Financial
terms were not disclosed.
According to Travel Leaders, Barrhead has some 75
locations and about 900 employees and agents. It will retain its brand and chief
executive Sharon Munro will continue to lead the company. Barrhead's founder,
Bill Munro -- Sharon Munro's father -- will serve as chairman of the Barrhead
division. TLG said no major operation changes are expected.
Barrhead, founded in 1975, joins a number of other brands
within TLG's U.K. portfolio, including Colletts Travel, Protravel International
U.K. and Tzell U.K. TLG last year announced a merger with Altour, which also
has a U.K. division that specializes in corporate and entertainment travel.
"We're excited about this chance to expand our presence
in Scotland and the U.K. overall and the opportunities this affords both
companies," Travel Leaders Group CEO Ninan Chacko said in a statement.
Sharon Munro said the acquisition will enable Barrhead to
take advantage of Travel Leaders' technology and expand into new markets.
