Uber has launched a tiered rewards program that offers basic cash perks at the lowest level and bigger benefits like fee waivers and upgraded service for big spenders on the app.
With Uber Rewards, members earn one point per dollar spent with Uber Eats and rides with Uber Pool; two points per dollar spent on UberX, UberXL or Select rides; and three points per dollar spent on Uber Black and Black SUV rides. Riders reach a Gold level at 500 points, Platinum at 2,500 points and Diamond at 7,500 points.
Benefits at each tier:
- Gold: Riders earn a $5 rebate to use on Uber rides or Uber Eats and earn additional $5 rebates for every subsequent 500 points. At this tier, riders can rebook within 15 minutes without cancellation fees on a limited basis and get priority when requesting support from Uber agents.
- Platinum: Riders can lock in a lower UberX price on a single route of their choosing, whenever they travel that route, and get priority access to the closest drivers when getting rides from airports.
- Diamond: Riders unlock a new class called UberX Diamond, which consists only of the highest-rated drivers, and they get "surprise upgrades" to Black and other premium rides when booking UberX. They also get access to a 24/7 phone line for support.
Uber has rolled out the program in Miami, New Jersey, Denver, Tampa, New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, San Diego and Washington, D.C. For riders in other markets, it is providing a wait-list and will notify them when it is available to them.
Lyft announced this week it will expand its rewards program in December, following the launch of a rewards program for Lyft Business users earlier this year.
