Lyft is making a monthly subscription service available across its user network in which users pay a flat fee of $299 for 30 rides per month.

Subscribers to Lyft's All-Access Plan can take 30 rides up to $15 each; they pay the balance on any ride that costs more. Additional rides beyond the 30 also come at a 5% discount. Subscribers cannot share their rides between other accounts, meaning a travel buyer could not buy a subscription to be shared among his or her company's traveler base, according to a Lyft spokesperson.

Lyft has been piloting the program with a select, invitation-only group since March and Uber has introduced a pass program to select users, but Lyft now is the first ridehailing network to offer such a subscription service across its network.

So, would a subscription offer savings? Yes, if:

  • the user uses the full 30 rides and those trips average at least $10 each, or
  • the user takes at least 20 rides that cost $15 or more
