Luxury travel operator Belmond said it would launch South America's first luxury sleeper train, the Belmond Andean Explorer in Peru.
The train, expected to begin operations in May 2017, will travel along one of the highest rail routes on earth, traversing the Peruvian Andes from Cusco to Lake Titicaca and Arequipa.
The train will offer suites, two double cabins, 20 twin cabins and 12 bunked cabins that sleep two. Prices start from $462 a person per night, including meals, open bar and excursions.
The company already offers train travel in South America -- its Belmond Hiram Bingham in Peru -- but that train doesn't offer overnight accommodations. Belmond also sells the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express in continental Europe, the Belmond Royal Scotsman in the U.K. and the Belmond Grand Hibernian, which is expected to launch in Ireland this summer.
