Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) will introduce an amendment to the
FAA reauthorization bill that would lessen disclosure burdens for travel
agents.
According to ASTA, parts of the Senate bill
would add seven disclosures that agents would have to make for each air
transaction. ASTA said that would add approximately 28 seconds to every phone
or face-to-face transaction.
"This would be unduly burdensome to travel agents or
other ticket agents that are conducting transactions on the telephone,"
said Conn Carroll, Sen. Lee's communications director.
When the bill comes to the Senate floor later this month, Lee
will introduce an amendment that would lessen that burden.
"Our amendment allows the telephone disclosures to only
have to be conducted 'upon request,'" Carroll said. "We also narrow
the full list of these disclosures to only have to be posted if business is
conducted on the Internet or another online service."
ASTA has been working against the disclosures. During
Legislative Day earlier this year, ASTA encouraged members to discuss the proposed
disclosures with their senators and representatives when they met on Capitol
Hill.
ASTA is encouraging agents to send messages
to their legislators in support of Lee's amendment.
