Carnival Cruise Line president Christine Duffy presented Jimenez with the "Spirit of Carnival" award at this year's Miss Universe competition, at which Duffy served on the selection committee, one of eight members of an all-female panel.

Duffy presented the award, for embodying Carnival's values of fun, friendship, diversity and inclusion, and named Jimenez as the Mardi Gras godmother during the Miss Universe broadcast, which Carnival said had a global television audience estimated at 500 million.

Jimenez will preside over the Mardi Gras' official naming ceremony when it debuts from Port Canaveral, Fla., later this year. Born in Puerto Rico and raised in the Dominican Republic, Jimenez advocates for at-risk youth and adoption, volunteering for the past three years at Los Ninos de Cristo orphanage, a nonprofit that serves abused and abandoned girls, and serving as a founding member of the Dominican Republic Women's Club, dedicated to providing services to indigent women suffering from breast cancer. Jimenez and her family were left homeless due to the devastation of Hurricane Maria, "underscoring her incredible perseverance and a positive, can-do attitude," Carnival said.

"Kimberly is a role model for female empowerment and has a passion for so many worthwhile causes, particularly those that assist women, children and families," said Duffy in a statement.

Jimenez and Miss Universe 2021, Miss Mexico Andrea Meza, will both sail on the ship's initial week-long itineraries from Florida's Space Coast to the Bahamas and the Caribbean, including Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic.
