Zleep Hotels, a Danish chain of hotels with a portfolio of nine properties, will open a new, 100-room hotel in Hillerod, 25 miles north of Copenhagen, in the fall of 2019.
The property is part of a 10,200-square-mile project that will also comprise retail shops, a fitness center, a supermarket, senior housing and a parking garage.
Zleep, which emphasizes affordability over perks, will outfit the property with a breakfast restaurant; complimentary, high-speed WiFi; and flat-screen TVs.
"Our brand and product is a modern, Nordic-designed, economy/select service, branded hotel [group]," Zleep CEO Peter Haaber said.
Rooms are just under 60 square feet, Haaber said, distinguishing them from pods but nonetheless compact and designed for budget-conscious travelers.
The three-star properties offer breakfast but no other meals, he said, and are fully bookable by U.S. travel agents via direct booking channels to the company's reservations system.
Hillerod is located within easy daytrip distance from Frederiksborg Castle, a Unesco heritage site.
Other Zleep properties set to open in 2019 include Aalborg and Upplands Vasby, a suburb of Stockholm. The latter will be its first outside of Denmark.
