The Hotel Beaulac in Neuchatel, Switzerland, debuted its Waves rooftop bar and lounge this month.
The project, designed by Swiss architect Pierre Studer, overlooks Lake Neuchatel and includes a 119-ton steel ribbon that twists to look like waves.
The structure, open year-round, is encased in glass for unobstructed views of the lake.
The indoor/outdoor space can accommodate up to 250 guests and can host small groups of up to 10.
Japanese-based Super Potato spearheaded the interior design, which includes an illuminated bar, an art wall of textured cardboard and indoor/outdoor central fireplaces.
The elevator access to the bar is equipped with surround digital screens that create an optical illusion of soaring into the sky.
In addition to signature cocktails and DJs four nights a week, the bar serves light fare, including beef or tuna tataki, vegetable samosas, homemade macarons and chocolate-mint lava cake.
Taking approximately 16 months to complete, the project cost about $9 million and is expected to draw more than 50,000 visitors in its first year, according to the hotel.
