The Valsana Hotel & Apartments is poised to open Dec. 7 in Arosa, Switzerland.

The property, designed by architect Roman Mooser and interior designer Carlo Rampazzi, makes use of sustainable building materials and decor elements.

The hotel is the first in Switzerland to be powered by an "ice vault," a large, underground thermal energy storage system that enables the property to store excess energy for later use.

Located in the Arosa-Lenzerheide ski area, within steps of a ski lift, the property is surrounded by forest land, Obersee Lake and the Graubunden mountains.

Accommodations include 40 rooms and nine family apartments, each with large balconies.

Hotel amenities include a lobby with an open floor plan, a lounge and the Twist restaurant, which will serve updated regional fare in a setting that includes a lakeside terrace.

The property will also feature a spa with saunas, a steam bath and a pool, and guests can take advantage of the hotel's free charging stations for electric vehicles.

The Arosa-Lenzerheide region is the largest interconnected skiing region of Graubunden, thanks to a cable car joining the two destinations and 140 miles of slopes.

The hotel is owned and operated by the Tschuggen Hotel Group, a privately owned company that also operates properties in St. Moritz and Ascona.
