VP Plaza Espana Design, a five-star hotel in central Madrid, marked its grand opening this spring.

A sculpture at the VP Plaza Espana Design was created to look as if water was cascading from the outdoor pool to the lobby below.
As the name indicates, the 214-room property focuses on design, exemplified by a heated outdoor pool with a transparent floor that looks down on a sculpture of what appears to be water falling into the lobby.
Other features include a wellness and spa area with a sauna and three treatment rooms and the rooftop Ginkgo Sky Bar & Restaurant, with 360-degree city views of the Plaza de Espana, Temple of Debod and the Royal Palace.
B720, a Spanish architects' studio, and the Cuarto Interior and Studio Gronda interior design studios were among the property's designers.
Artwork includes paintings by Fernando Palacios and sculptural design elements created by artists Pere Figre and Jan Henrix.
Rates start at about $220 per night.
