Royal Lancaster London unveiled this month the results of an extensive $105 million renovation. The 411-room midcentury hotel overlooking Hyde Park refurbished all of its guestrooms and suites, offering modern design elements and such high-tech amenities as loaner smartphones, international outlets and TVs with more than 138 international channels and 33 radio stations. Other features include The White Company toiletries, waterfall showers and underfloor heating in the bathrooms.
The concept and design of the redo was overseen by London-based Studio Proof, and the hotel remained open during the project.
Known as the Lancaster London since 2009, the hotel is marking its 50th anniversary this year and has reverted to its original name, Royal Lancaster London.
The renovation of the 18-story hotel also includes a remodeled 26-foot-high glazed facade leading to a white Carrara marble staircase from the lobby to the first floor.
The new Hyde Lobby Bar serves cocktails, coffee and light cuisine throughout the day.
This phase of the refurbishment comes on the heels of the 2015 redesign of the hotel's Nipa Thai restaurant. The final phase will be completed in May 2018 with a redesign of the Lounge Bar and the Park Room on the first floor.
The property can accommodate 3,000 guests in 16 refurbished meetings and events spaces, including the Nine Kings and Westbourne Suites, which can hold 2,400 for a seated dinner.
The hotel, which is owned by Khun Jatuporn Sihanatkathakul, has hosted such notable celebrities as Michael Caine, Princess Diana and the Beatles since it opened in 1967.
Room rates start at about $286 per night.
