The new south wing of Helsinki Airport in Finland is on schedule to open this summer, the first phase in a nearly $1.12 billion expansion project by airport operator Finavia.

The project will increase the size of the terminal surface area by about 26,000 square feet and introduce services such as moving walkways.

Construction is underway on the west wing of the airport, as well, set for completion in 2020.  A new central plaza is expected to open in late 2018, bringing more than 80,000 square feet of new passenger and baggage facilities to the airport.

When completed, the projects will enable the facility to accommodate 20 million passengers per year, which is nearly 3 million more than it presently serves.
