ME by Melia opened its first property on Spain's Catalan coast, the ME Sitges Terramar, in March. Located 20 miles from Barcelona, the 213-room hotel features a Personality Suite and 24 Chic Suites, all with large terraces overlooking the sea and ME+ Service, which offers a variety of luxury privileges.
Formerly the Hotel Terramar, the property's management was taken over by Melia Hotels International in December 2016 and remained closed in the interim for renovations, which were carried out by the Barcelona-based design studio LaGranja.
Eateries at the ME Sitges Terramar are Beso Sitges, featuring Mediterranean-inspired dishes, paellas and an extensive cocktail menu; Beso Beach, for beachfront lounging and music; and the Oyster Bar for fresh seafood. The property also offers a full-service spa and meetings facilities with free high-speed WiFi.
A rooftop bar called Radio ME Sitges is set to open at the property this summer and will offer panoramic views, music and signature cocktails.
Sitges is a gay-friendly Mediterranean beach town with 26 beaches, Renaissance and art nouveau architecture, museums, watersports and golf as well as pop-up beach bars and a vibrant nightlife.
Rooms at the ME Sitges Terramar start at $250 per night.
There are currently ME by Melia hotels in three other Spanish destinations -- Ibiza, Mallorca and Madrid -- as well as in Miami, Milan, London and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, ME Dubai is set to launch at the end of 2018, followed by the opening of ME Barcelona in 2019.
