The Burgenstock Resort Lake Lucerne is gearing up for its opening this summer.
Situated 2,800 feet above Lake Lucerne and overlooking the Rigi and Pilatus Mountains, the year-round property is spread over 148 acres. It will feature two five-star hotels and one four-star property as well as a three-star inn and 67 residence suites, totaling 383 rooms in all.
The complex will include 12 restaurants and bars serving a variety of international cuisines as well as a 107,000-square-foot spa, with three swimming pools and 15 treatment rooms.
Katara Hospitality, the developer and operator of the hotels on behalf of Qatar investors, is investing about $500 million in the resort, focusing on healthy living and responsible tourism and spearheaded by Bruno Schopfer, managing director of Katara Hospitality Switzerland.
The property is car-free, although guests can arrive by auto and park in a subterranean garage or access the resort via funicular from the lake. Outdoor pursuits include a nine-hole golf course, three tennis courts, a curling rink, 43 miles of hiking and biking trails and a private lido on the lake for water sports.
Guestrooms are located in the new, 102-room, five-star-superior Burgenstock Hotel; the renovated, 108-room, four-star superior Palace Hotel; the new 160-room, five-star Waldhotel Healthy Living hotel; the renovated 12-room, three-star 1879 Taverne; and the new 67 Residence Suites.
The accommodations are closed during construction, with the exception of the 12-room Taverne 1879, which was renovated in 2012 and is open now.
