Chicago's Hotel Indigo will be rebranded as the Claridge House after a $9 million renovation is completed on the 95-year-old Gold Coast property this spring.

The 165-room hotel is getting upgrades to its guestrooms and public area, with the redesign emphasizing a residential feel to reference the property's origin as a luxury-apartment building.

The lobby will have a communal table next to a marble fireplace, while the ground floor will add a seafood restaurant and bar called Juniper Spirits & Oysters.

The guestrooms, some of which have Lake Michigan views, will have a pied-a-terre feel and will add amenities such as Samsung HDTVs and artwork showing street scenes of London, which was the basis for the Claridge name.

Managed by Oxford Hotels & Resorts, the property opened in 1923 as a luxury-apartment complex and once housed an ice-skating rink on its roof. The hotel was known as the Claridge Hotel as recently as 2005 and has operated under InterContinental Hotel Group's Hotel Indigo badge ever since.
