The U.S. and Belize have signed an Open Skies civil aviation agreement.
Under the agreement, commercial and cargo carriers from both countries can fly without limitations between the U.S. and Belize and beyond, the State Department said in a Tuesday announcement.
The agreement replaces the U.S.-U.K. air services agreement, known as Bermuda II, that has applied to U.S.-Belize air services since 1977.
As far as the deal's practical impact, Belize minister of tourism and aviation Manuel Heredia said that it formalizes a "relationship long existing between the United States and Belize in air transportation," according to the website Breaking Belize News.
