LAS VEGAS -- Want to earn $50,000 in commission for just one
sale?
All you have do is send a client to space.
Orion Span, a startup that will take customers on 12-day journeys
to its planned Aurora Space Station beginning in 2022, unveiled the commission
offer during a presentation Monday at the Future Travel Experience Global
Conference here.
"We want to motivate people to, number one, be part of
the program, and, number two, bring their customers to us," Orion Span CEO
Frank Bunger said at the conference.
That $50,000 commission, however, might not come easily.
Orion Span is charging a starting price of $9.5 million for
the space excursion. In other words, it isn't for the middle class.
Those who do ante up will undergo three months of astronaut
training over the six months that proceed the journey.
The company plans to take six people on each of its monthly
trips. Bunger said 26 people have booked the space excursion to date.
The whole concept of Orion Span may sound far-fetched, but
it's not merely a project being taken on by fanciful dreamers. Two of the
company's executives have a combined 27 years of experience at the Johnson
Space Center in Houston, where their responsibilities included work related to
the International Space Station.
Thus far, Orion Span has finished a virtual-reality model of
the Aurora station. The company plans to build a full-size ground module of the
station early next year as it moves toward the planned 2022 launch.
