In mid-2020, Royal Air Maroc will become the Oneworld
alliance's first full member from Africa and its first new full member since
2012.
The Moroccan carrier, which has 55 aircraft and flies more
than 7 million passengers per year, is the largest African airline that had not
been affiliated with one of the major global alliances.
Over the next five years, Royal Air Maroc plans to grow to
13 million passengers per year and expand from 94 destinations to 121.
"Royal Air Maroc is growing into a truly global airline
with its home base in Casablanca to be developed into Africa's leading aviation
gateway while also consolidating its place as Africa's No. 1 financial
center," Oneworld CEO Rob Gurney said.
While British Airways franchisee Comair, based in South
Africa, has been an affiliate member of Oneworld since 1999, Africa was the
only continent, save Antarctica, in which Oneworld had no full members.
