The first phase of the New York LaGuardia
Airport redevelopment is complete, as 11 gates in the redesigned Terminal B will open on Dec.
1.
Air Canada, American Airlines and Southwest Airlines will operate
flights from the new concourse, with United joining in 2019.
The concourse features charging stations throughout seating
areas, a nursing room, a children's play area and restrooms with above-sink
shelves to keep belongings off the bathroom floor.
The play area is next to an indoor green space modeled after
New York City parks, complete with benches.
The terminal houses Air Canada's Maple Leaf Lounge, with the
United Club to follow in 2019.
New retail options include a FAO Schwarz toy store, a McNally
Jackson bookstore, MAC Cosmetics and a Spa Here location. Restaurants include Shake Shack, Irving
Farm Coffee Roasters, Osteria Fusco, La Chula Bar & Taqueria, Kingside Bar
& Restaurant and Five Boroughs Market.
Yet to open in Terminal B are seven more gates and dual
pedestrian bridges connecting the main part of the terminal to two island
concourses.
The new terminal's developer and operator is LaGuardia Gateway
Partners, an entity comprised of Vantage Airport Group, Skanska, Meridiam and
JLC Infrastructure.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the $8 billion overhaul
of LaGuardia in July 2015. The redevelopment also calls for a new 35-gate
terminal, a redeveloped Terminal C and a Central Hall that will connect to
Terminal C. The entire project is expected to be finished in 2022.
