Travelers who want to bring their marijuana stash through
Los Angeles International Airport will get no arguments from the airport
police.
With the legalization of cannabis in the state, the airport
updated its policy to note that since California law allows individuals over 21
to have up to 28.5 grams of marijuana, airport police have no jurisdiction to
arrest anyone carrying that amount or less through the airport.
The policy does note, however, that Transportation Security
Administration screeners are under federal jurisdiction, and "passengers
should be aware that marijuana laws vary state by state and they are encouraged
to check the laws of the states in which they plan to travel."
TSA spokeswoman Lorie Dankers, however, told The Associated
Press recently that agents won't take away marijuana they find away but will
summon the police and let them deal with it.
"TSA's focus is on terrorism and security threats to
the aircraft and its passengers," Dankers said.
