By the end of 2021, JetBlue said it will retrofit 138 Airbus A320 aircraft with
vortex generators, which reduce noise on landings.
The retrofits will leave the carrier's entire fleet of
Airbus A320s and A321s with the noise-reducing devices, which divert wind from
passing over ports on the wing, preventing a whistling tone during approach
into an airport.
The entire retrofit will cost less than $1 million.
"While the airline industry has benefited from advances
in technology and efficiency leading to quieter planes and engines, the work is
never done," said Joe Bertapelle, JetBlue's director of strategic airspace
programs. "We're pleased to incorporate this advancement across our Airbus
fleet."
Since 2015, JetBlue has been taking new deliveries of Airbus
A320s and A321s with vortex generators.
