Delta is contemplating a more upscale dining offering for economy flyers on international flights. The service would be part of the economy service offering.

The carrier is testing the enhanced meal service on select international flights to and from Portland. Passengers are offered a welcome glass of sparkling wine or sparkling water. In addition, they get an appetizer service, upgraded entrees and meals served on plates, Delta spokeswoman Savannah Huddleston said.

"Delta constantly listens to customer feedback and is now testing innovative ways to make our culinary experience onboard feel more like dining at a favorite restaurant," Huddleston said in an email. "As part of that, we are conducting a test on select international flights where flight attendants will deliver an enhanced Main Cabin dining experience that we'll use to gather customer feedback."

Huddleston wouldn't say how long the trial would last and didn't reveal when Delta would decide whether to adopt the service on more international flights.
