Delta has officially opened its renovated Sky Club lounge at Reagan Washington National Airport.

The renovation added 1,800 square feet to the facility, increasing its size by 20%, while sprucing up amenities.

Highlights of the upgraded facility include leather furnishing, modern finishes, an open seating plan to maximize views of the runway and Potomac River, and "striking lighting features," Delta said.

The lounge also features an expanded bar and a seasonally rotating food menu designed by the D.C-area's Marjorie Meek-Bradley, a 2016 finalist on the Bravo television program Top Chef.

Delta's renovation at Washington Reagan is part of a broader upgrade of its Sky Club lounge system. Over the past two years the carrier has renovated or expanded Sky Clubs in Newark, Minneapolis/St. Paul and Raleigh-Durham and opened flagship Sky Club lounges in its Atlanta and Seattle hubs. New Sky Clubs are also planned for Phoenix late this year and Austin next year.

Thursday also brought other news in the U.S. airport lounge scene. Collinson, operator of the Priority Pass program, announced that Priority Pass members can now use the well-renown Virgin Atlantic Clubhouses in Washington Dulles and Newark. Priority Pass, membership to which is included in various travel-related credit cards, offers access to more than 1,200 lounges worldwide. Individuals can also join Priority Pass for an annual fee of as low as $99, though depending on the level of their membership they still might have to pay for lounge entry.

Members of Collinson's Lounge Key and Lounge Club programs can also now access the Virgin Atlantic lounges at Dulles and Newark.
