All international carriers serving Taiwan capital Taipei
have complied with a demand from China to remove the word "Taiwan"
from their websites.
The Chinese government in April told all airlines to strike
references to Taiwan as an independent territory. The request came in
accordance with China's "One-China Policy," which the White House
derided.
China's deadline was today, and all major U.S. carriers now
list only Taipei and its airport code on their websites. The Chinese newspaper
People's Daily reports that all 44 airlines targeted in China's request have
made the changes.
