British Airways is investigating a data breach that the
airline says compromised the personal and financial details of customers making
bookings on BA.com and on the carrier's app.
The breach lasted between Aug. 21 and Sept. 5, but has now
been resolved, British Airways said.
"We are deeply sorry for the disruption that this
criminal activity has caused," British Airway CEO Alex Cruz said in a
prepared statement Thursday. "We take the protection of our customers'
data very seriously."
Approximately 380,000 card payments were compromised by the
breach, British Airways told CNBC.
The airline said it is communicating with affected customers
and advised customers who believe they have been compromised to contact banks
or credit card providers.
