American Airlines is joining Delta, United and JetBlue in increasing checked-bag fees.

Like those carriers, American's fee for the first checked bag will rise from $25 to $30 and the second checked bag will jump from $35 to $40 for flights in the U.S. and Canada.

The change is effective for tickets purchased beginning Friday. American last increased its bag fees in 2010.

Delta increased its bag fees this week. JetBlue started the trend in late August and was followed quickly by United.
