The Department of Transportation has fined Allegiant $225,000 for violations of the federal tarmac rule.

The violations occurred on 10 flights during the summers of 2016 and 2017. On each of those flights, including seven that were delayed on the tarmac in Las Vegas, the carrier failed to provide comfortable cabin temperatures during the delay.

In addition, on an August 2017 flight that was delayed for more than three hours on an Albuquerque runway due to a maintenance delay and a passenger altercation, Allegiant failed to make an announcement informing passengers that they had an opportunity to deplane, the DOT said. The carrier also failed to serve water and snacks to passengers within two hours of the original door closure on that flight, DOT said. Not providing food and water violated the airline's tarmac contingency plan.
