Outrigger Hotels and Resorts has announced the purchase of Honua Kai Resort and Spa on Maui from Alterra Mountain Company for an undisclosed price.

Honua Kai is an oceanfront condo resort situated on 38 acres adjacent to Kaanapali North Beach. The property offers studios and one-, two- and three-bedroom suites and is home to the Hoola Spa, Aina Gourmet Market Cafe and Duke's Beach House restaurant.

Expansion plans are already underway at the resort to add 72 luxury townhomes by 2020. All of the units previously managed by Alterra Mountain Company will now operate under Hawaii Vacation Condos by Outrigger, effective immediately.

Outrigger's portfolio includes 37 owned and/or managed hotels, resorts and vacation condominiums in Hawaii, Fiji, Thailand, Guam, Mauritius and the Maldives, and the hospitality company has been expanding its collection in recent years.

"With Hawaii consistently ranked as one of the world's premier vacation destinations, our realigned growth strategy includes substantial investment in our home market for both owned and managed operations," Jeff Wagoner, president and CEO of Outrigger Hotels and Resorts, said in a statement. "Honua Kai is a meticulously maintained luxury property that's impeccably aligned with Outrigger's family-friendly, beachfront brand. We're delighted to have this new offering for our guests to enjoy."

Honua Kai Resort and Spa becomes Hawaii Vacation Condos by Outrigger's largest Maui property and it will be marketed alongside Outrigger's hotels and resorts through its global sales and marketing network. The luxury suites at Honua Kai include full kitchens with Bosch appliances, private lanais and in-room washer and dryers.
