Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort has updated the menus at two property establishments with new vegan items.
The Reef Bar and Market Grill and Kani Ka Pila Grille will both be offering an expanded selection of animal-product-free dishes in response to increased requests for vegan options, the company announced in a press release.
"Pairing Hawaii's thriving locavore movement with the growing demand for more vegan options in the restaurant industry, our expanded menu offerings at the Reef Bar and Market Grill and Kani Ka Pila Grille are sure to please our guests while attracting a wider audience of diners searching for fresh and innovative vegan selections in Waikiki," Delia Romano, executive sous chef at Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort, said in the statement.
The Reef Bar and Market Grill serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and new items include a seared tofu bowl, plant-based Beyond Meat tacos, and a veggie stack of tofu, cauliflower, zucchini and onion, which guests can order as a "grill your own" option. The breakfast buffet now includes a variety of freshly baked vegan items in addition to an acai bowl and local fruits. For dessert, there is a vegan hibiscus-poached pear with almond cake and sweet cream, topped with a scoop of strawberry sorbet.
At the poolside Kani Ka Pila Grille the all-day dining also routinely features live music, and among new dishes are crispy cauliflower fritters, jackfruit tacos and vegan banh mi sandwiches with ginger-lemongrass marinated tofu.
