Mauna Kea Resort on the Island of Hawaii has recently launched a beekeeping tour where guests learn about the properties hives, bee society, and honey production.

Mauna Kea Resort, which includes Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and The Westin Hapuna Beach Resort, launched programming around onsite bee hives maintained in cooperation with the State of Hawaii's Apiary Division.

The "Bee Mauna Kea" program offers guests an hourlong interactive tour of the beekeeping program. Participants will wear beekeeping suits as they get demonstrations on how the hives function, bee behavior, hive care and maintenance, and, if the hive is ready for harvest, a "honey pull."

Guests can also sample raw honey and receive a jar of Mauna Kea Resort Honey as part of the experience.

The beekeeping tour is available on Fridays with advance reservation, and costs $50 with fees supporting the maintenance of the hives. For more information call (808) 882-7222.
