Carnival Cruise Line is set to roll out a new service on many of its ships in which guests can have pizza delivered to them anywhere onboard.

The Pizza Anywhere experience was tested starting with the Carnival Horizon launch in the spring and has since been extended to the Carnival Vista.

Carnival chief operating officer Gus Antorcha said plans call for it to be expanded to multiple ships by 2020.

The service works in connection with a smartphone that has Carnival's HubApp installed. The multi-functional app is available through the usual online stores, such as the App Store and Google Play.

After installation (it must be installed before boarding the ship), the app can be used to place an order for several types of free pizza available through the Pizzeria del Capitano outlet.

Beyond guest staterooms, pizzas can be delivered to all but a handful of public spaces on the ship. Guests can tap on an interactive map to show where they are and upload a selfie to help the server recognize them.

After ordering, the app will estimate how long it will take for the pizza to be ready.

There is a $5 delivery fee, charged to a guest's Sign and Sail card. Like an Uber, guests can add a tip for the server if desired by tapping a button.

Carnival says about two-thirds of its guests are now downloading the HubApp, which is also useful for making dining reservations, tracking activities and communicating with other cruise guests.
