MSC Cruises will take steps to cut down on the use of
plastics on its ships.
This year, plastic straws will be phased out. They will be
gone by the end of December, MSC said.
By March 2019, virtually all single-use plastics will be
removed or replaced, if alternatives are available.
MSC said its efforts apply not only to 'visible' single-use
plastics, but also 'invisible' single-use plastic items in the entire supply
chain, replacing them with sustainable alternatives when available.
MSC Cruises' headquarters in Geneva has already engaged with
thousands of partners and suppliers with a firm request to remove all plastics
from its supply chain.
"We are demanding their specific action and their
commitment to support us on this journey," an MSC statement said.
