Hapag-Lloyd Cruises signed a contract for a third expedition
ship for delivery in 2021.
The 230-passenger ship will be called the Hanseatic Spirit
and will be Hapag-Lloyd's first adults-only vessel.
It will be based on the design of the Hanseatic Inspiration
and Hanseatic Nature, which are due next year.
TUI Group, the parent of Hapag-Lloyd, gave the green light
in May for the order based on solid first-half results at the German luxury and
expedition line.
"By investing in the new Hapag-Lloyd Cruises ships, the
TUI Group is underlining its strategy for this cruise segment and the
importance of our luxury brand to the group portfolio," said Hapag-Lloyd
CEO Karl J. Pojer.
Financial terms weren't disclosed. Each of the two previous ships
have an estimated cost of $155 million.
The ship will be built by Fincantieri's Vard subsidiary in
Norway and the interior design will be overseen by Oceanarchitects.
