The Celebrity Edge, a new ship due in November, will feature
a high-tech main theater that won't have a traditional proscenium arch.
Celebrity Cruises said the space will have four stage areas
and three oversized moving projection screens, with a main stage extending into
the audience creating a theater-in-the-round sensation.
There will be extensive use of moving platforms, video projection
mapping and other new-age theater technology.
Celebrity said a "duo-directional" rotating
platform that will rise almost seven feet above the stage will be accompanied
by two rotating spiral staircases, 10 synchronized panoramic projection
screens, 16 state-of-the-art video mapping laser projectors, and elaborate
aerial performance rigging.
Wilson Butler Architects, which designed the Two70° lounges
on Royal Caribbean International's Quantum-class ships, will design the theater
space, while TAIT, a leader in the stage automation business, will coordinate
backstage.
The theater will host five new full production shows.
They include the Shakespeare-inspired "A Hot Summer
Night's Dream," where light-hearted theater meets extraordinary acrobatics;
"The Jewelry Box," with jaw-dropping technological feats; Kaleidoscope,
a high-energy music-and-dance piece harnessing the stage's state-of-the-art
technology; "Get Up," a dynamic pop concert produced by Black Skull
Creative; and "The Purpose," an uplifting production designed to
celebrate the inner self.
A second entertainment venue, The Club, was also designed by
Wilson Butler in collaboration with designer and architect Patricia Urquiola.
Like the Two70° Lounge, it has different programs during the
day and at night.
During the day, The Club offers experiences such as the
Funovation Laser Maze Challenge, a Drone Hunting laser obstacle course.
At night, Undercover at The Club puts a contemporary spin on
the Prohibition era, Celebrity said, with 1920s-inspired craft cocktails and an
aerial saxophonist.
Andromeda, a futuristic body scanner, lets guests become
someone else for the evening, Celebrity said, while the Hypno Cam Experience is
a dance party featuring a high-tech camera that's passed around to capture
photos, which are instantly displayed on a giant LED screen.
Celebrity said there will also be entertainment, as
previously disclosed, at the Rooftop Garden and at the Eden restaurant.
Celebrity also released renderings of two spaces for kids
and teens. Between them, they will offer more than 500 activities, including
Celebrity's first youth coding experience at sea.

The Celebrity Edge will have a Camp at Sea for kids.
