A seaman who fell off a Norwegian Cruise Line ship survived
in the waters off Cuba for 22 hours before being rescued by a Carnival Cruise
Line ship in the vicinity.
The U.S. Coast Guard said the unnamed crew member was
reported in stable condition.
Around 3:20 p.m. on Saturday, the sailor went missing from
the Norwegian Getaway. He was found alive about 21 miles off the Cuba coast at
1 p.m. on Sunday by the Carnival Glory.
Before the unusual cruise-to-cruise rescue, the Coast Guard
said it deployed an HC-144 Ocean Sentry search plan from Miami, an HC-13
Hercules plane from Clearwater and the cutter Raymond Evans, which conducted a
search of more than 1,630 square miles.
A Coast Guard statement said the incident was under
investigation.
