Princess Cruises said it reached a milestone this month by
providing functionality for its Ocean Medallion wearable device for all 3,100
guests of the Caribbean Princess ship.
Previously, Princess had tested the device with select
groups on some ships. The Ocean Medallion can be worn in a watchband or as a pendant, or simply toted in a purse or pocket.
The medallions -- which work in tandem with the Ocean
Compass mobile app -- provide keyless stateroom access and allow payment for
items such as drinks and merchandise.
Guests can use the OceanNav feature for point-to-point
wayfinding throughout the ship via an intelligent navigation assistant. The ShipMates
feature enables passengers to track the whereabouts of family members on the
ship. On portals throughout the ship, guests can access a real-time look at
their itinerary, along with events and activities taking place during their
cruise.
In addition, Princess said Caribbean Princess guests are
using the medallion to play casino games, including slots, poker, bingo,
roulette, keno and lottery. The medallion also is being used to play family
games such as trivia, word jumble, a matching game and Ocean Treks Adventure --
an interactive scavenger hunt.
