Mexican destination management company (DMC) Lomas Travel
lost a huge chunk of business when it was dropped by vacation packager Mark
Travel Corp. last month, but the company may have gained a little of it back.
Classic Vacations has tapped Lomas to serve as one of its DMCs
in the Mexican Caribbean, and it appears that Lomas' reputation among travel agents
is one reason why. Classic Vacations president David Hu said Lomas owners Joe Martinez
and Dolores Lopez Lira and their team "have a tremendously loyal following
in the travel agent community."
Mayaland Tours will continue to serve as Classic's primary
provider of guided tours and airport transfers in Mexico.
"Classic Vacations is very excited to have Lomas, and
the great products and reputation of the Martinez family, as a choice for our
customers for both group and FIT travel," said Hu. "Ultimately,
adding Lomas provides another dimension to Classic's portfolio and allows
travel advisors to make the choice that works best for them."
Lomas had been the primary destination management provider
for Mark Travel up until Mark Travel and Apple Leisure Group merged on May 1.
As of June 13, all of Mark Travel's transfers and tour services
in the Mexican Caribbean will be handled by Amstar, the ground operator owned by Apple Leisure
Group.
