Airbnb has named former Amazon executive Dave Stephenson CFO, effective in early January. He succeeds Laurence Tosi, who departed the company earlier this year.

A 17-year Amazon veteran, Stephenson most recently served as vice president and CFO of the e-commerce giant's worldwide consumer organization, overseeing all global website sales, including Amazon Prime and Amazon subsidiaries Whole Foods and Zappos.

Prior to that, he was vice president for Amazon's international consumer business, and he previously led finance across several company divisions, including North America retail, merchant services and Amazon web services.

Stephenson is the second longtime Amazon executive to join Airbnb this year, following the appointment of Greg Greeley to the role of president of homes in March.

The leadership changes come as Airbnb prepares for an IPO. The company plans to go public by the end of Q2 2019.
