United will end flights to the Mexican Pacific resort
towns of Huatulco and Mazatlan this summer, as well as to the southeast Mexican
city of Villahermosa.
The carrier will end its weekly service between Huatulco and
Houston on June 23. United flights between Villahermosa and Houston will end on
Jun 28. United will drops flights to Mazatlan from Chicago and Houston on Aug.
18.
United is the only airline serving all four of those routes.
"Mexico remains an important piece of our international
route network," United international network vice president Patrick Quayle
said in a statement. "While the decision to discontinue service to these
cities was a difficult one, we will continue to closely monitor demand for
travel in the region and look for new flying opportunities for our customers."
United also plans to end service in the crowded Los
Angeles-Mexico City market on Oct. 4.
The five route cessations are among several adjustments
United will make to its Mexico network later this year. Notably, the carrier
will launch daily service between Chicago and the central Mexican city of Leon
on Oct. 28.
