Sun Country will fly the first nonstop service between Minneapolis and both Belize and St. Kitts this winter.

The discount carrier will fly both routes on Saturdays between Dec. 22 and April 20.

For St. Kitts and Nevis, the announcement is the second piece of good news delivered by a U.S. airline in the past 16 days. On Aug. 20, United said it would increase its Newark-St. Kitts service to twice weekly this winter with Wednesday service from Jan. 9 to March 6. United  already flies Newark-St. Kitts on Saturdays.

Belize director of tourism Karen Bevans said Sun Country's new service will mark the deepest nonstop reach between Belize and the Midwest. The Upper Midwest, she added, is "an area of the U.S. that can really benefit from easy access to a tropical Belizean vacation when winter comes."
