Barely a month after launching its inaugural New York flight on Oct. 28, Kenya Airways has announced plans to reduce frequency on the route.

Effective Jan. 15, the carrier will operate between New York Kennedy and Nairobi five times per week, down from the current seven.

The carrier said it remains strongly committed to the New York route, Kenya Airways' first to the U.S.

"The decision to adjust our schedule is to cater for seasonality in line with global practices that allows airlines to reduce or add frequencies based on low or high seasons," CEO Sebastian Mikosz said. "We will evaluate the option of reverting back to daily flights for this route next summer as we have been doing for our Paris and Amsterdam flights."
