Starting July 1, a new set of rules will go into place that
will establish two daily visiting periods and will require a tour guide for
visiting Peru's famous Machu Picchu site.
There will be a visiting period from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m., and
a second from 12 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., said PromPeru, Peru's tourism-marketing
organization.
If a visitor would like to spend the entire day visiting the
famed archaeological site, they must purchase two tickets, one for each
visiting period.
A tour guide will be mandatory, and each guide will lead a
maximum group size of 16 people.
The new rules were put into place "to ensure the
adequate flow of tourist visits to the sanctuary," PromPeru said.
