Tieback chains will prevent the Concordia from sliding further into the sea.

The salvage companies plan to build a subsea platform that will anchor to the sea floor.

Caissons, or watertight structures, will be fixed to the port side of the ship and initially filled with water.

Two cranes fixed to the platform will pull the shipupright, with the help of the caissons.

Once the ship is pulled upright, it will rest on the subsea platform.

A second set of caissons will be fixed to the ship's starboard side.

Then the caissons will be emptied of water and filled with air.

Once floated, the wreck will be towed to an Italian port, Costa said.
