Under a gray but rain-free sky, a crowd of several hundred witnessed the official naming of the Royal Princess, the newest Princess Cruises ship, by British royalty. The duchess was the ship's godmother.

The duchess snipped a cord that sent a magnum of champagne to break on the bow of the ship.

Before the ceremony, the duchess toured the Royal Princess and met with representatives of the ship's crew. She also toured the bridge with the Royal's captain, Tony Draper.

The $735 million Royal Princess arrived in Southampton June 7 for the festivities.
