Accommodations, ranging from first-class to very basic hotels, also include campgrounds, spas (many require reservations a year in advance), ski lodges and country inns. Most are more than adequate—well-run and clean—but some hotels on the lower end of the scale may seem sparse to Western tastes. The best hotels are in Bratislava and in some of the spa towns and ski villages. Outside of Bratislava, look for smaller, family-run pensions for a taste of the local life.
