Splendido Mare, A Belmond Hotel

Location and History

At the end of a winding private road, up the hill from its more modest portside sibling Hotel Splendido Mare, this property is still King of the Ligurian coast. Service remains a high point, and the accommodations are in fine shape.

The hotel rose from the ruins of a 16th-century monastery only to become the coast's shining beacon of La Dolce Vita, luring a who's-who of the late 1950s and 1960s. These days it still manages to attract a well-heeled crowd though it's CEOs and reality TV stars that are apt to be seen around the pool and in the famous bar.
