1/1 Soi 9 Chalernprated Rd Changklan, Chiang Mai, Thailand 50100
Location and History
Like its nearby neighbor 137 Pillars, Na Nirand is located around an old Western-style building that was the original Royal Thai Forest Department Office (the current Forestry Office is close by).
The giant 120-year-old raintree that dominates the grounds here was supposedly planted by Herbert Slade, an English forester and the district's first Conservator of Forests. Teak timber was as important then as it is today but Slade's role was more about collecting logging taxes than conserving the forests.
