The Panaewa Rodeo on the east side of Hawaii Island will celebrate its 27th year in early 2019.
The annual event and competition is held at the Panaewa Equestrian Center outside of Hilo, and will run Feb. 16 to 18.
Paniolo (Hawaiian cowboys) and spectators are invited to rodeo skills events that includes roping cattle, barrel racing on horseback and bull riding. Hawaii Island has a long history of ranching and cattle raising that continues today. There are more than a dozen events at the rodeo, including three unique to Hawaii, and several overall prizes for the most talented cowboys.
The family-friendly event will also feature a world-famous rodeo clown, leather and saddle making exhibits, cultural tent, and food and craft booths.
