The Hawaii Tourism Authority announced it is awarding more than $3.5 million in funding to support 130 programs in the Hawaiian Islands that contribute to community events and programs and the perpetuation of Hawaiian culture and natural resources.
The HTA has granted $1.2 million to 28 recipients who submitted proposals regarding the preservation and continuance of Hawaiian culture, including community groups, practitioners, musicians, and artists.
Another $1.1 million is going to 28 awardees working on programs to protect Hawaii's environment and natural resources. Finally, $1.2 million will go to 74 recipients dedicated to supporting community events and enrichment, including funding for festivals, events, and year-round programs in support of culture, education, health and wellness, nature, agriculture, sports, technology, and voluntourism.
Funding recipients were selected from qualified nonprofit groups, community organizations and individuals statewide who submitted proposals to the HTA earlier in 2018.
